Stiefel Laboratories Expands U.S. Consumer HealthCare Division: Launches Impruv® Dry Skin Product Line At Walgreens

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – March 6, 2009 – Stiefel Laboratories, Inc. announced the U.S. launch of Impruv®, a line of dry skin products that will be available this month at Walgreens stores nationwide. Impruv® Dry Skin Products are effective for patients suffering with mild to severe dry skin. Launch plans include extensive communication and sampling to physicians, pharmacists, and consumers through internet, print and national television advertising. Stiefel is the world’s largest independent dermatology company.

“Stiefel is proud to announce the addition of Impruv® Dry Skin Products to our consumer product portfolio,” said Shayne Sundholm, vice president, U.S. Consumer HealthCare, Stiefel. “Impruv® Dry Skin Products are scientifically formulated for the unique needs of dry and sensitive skin and we are very excited to be working with Walgreens on our nationwide launch.”

Dr. Joseph Fowler, clinical professor of dermatology, University of Louisville, commented “Given the importance of barrier repair to healthy skin, the patented Derma Membrane Structure technology of the Impruv® Natural Repair Products, with 6 botanical lipids, offers a truly unique solution for patients who suffer from dry, sensitive skin.”

“With their heritage of innovation in skincare, it’s not surprising to me that Stiefel Laboratories has developed such a unique solution for dry, sensitive skin,” said Dr. Diane Berson, assistant clinical professor of dermatology, Weill Cornell Medical College. “I’m pleased to hear that it is now available in the U.S.”

As part of a strategic effort to grow its U.S. Consumer HealthCare business, Stiefel Laboratories selected eight products for the Impruv® Product Line from its extensive global portfolio that are ideally suited to address the needs of dry, sensitive skin. The flagship products are Impruv® Natural Repair Lotion and Impruv® Natural Repair Cream, which are two of the company’s most unique and best-selling products, marketed as Physiogel® Lotion and Cream in Europe. Both products are made with a patented and proven European technology called DMS (Derma Membrane Structure) that makes the use of artificial emulsifiers unnecessary. Impruv® Natural Repair products replenish the lipids the skin produces naturally with six botanicals (coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, wheat germ, soy and shea butter) to help restore overall body moisture and help repair extra dry skin on the hands, body and feet.

Dermatologists will be pleased to know the Impruv® Product Line also includes several Classic Stiefel product formulations. Classic products being rebranded as Impruv® Dry Skin Products include: LactiCare® (Impruv® Deep Moisturizing Lotion) an alpha-hydroxy lotion with concentrated moisturizers; Oilatum® (Impruv® Moisturizing Cleansing Bar) an unscented, long-lasting bar that leaves skin soft and glowing; Oilatum AD® (Impruv® Moisturizing Antibacterial Cleanser) a gentle, soap-free formula that removes dirt, oil and bacteria; DermaVite® (Impruv® Dry Skin Vitamins) which deliver a unique blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to promote healthy skin, hair and nails; and Brasivol® (Impruv® Microconditioner) with patented exfoliating particles, removes dirt, oil and dead skin cells to reveal smoother, more radiant skin.
