Chris Royal joined Stiefel, a GSK company, in April 2011 as the Global Compliance Officer. In his current role, Chris provides strategic direction for all compliance related activities to effectively manage business unit risk, and help ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company commitments. Chris directs the effective implementation of a value-based compliance program within the company to prevent, detect and correct violations of company policy.

Chris began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in 1998 with GSK in London, where he started on the renowned finance graduate program that provided broad exposure to all aspects of finance across the commercial, manufacturing and corporate arenas.

During his tenure at GSK, Chris has developed a significant amount of risk and internal control experience by accepting roles of increasing responsibility in different areas of the organization in the United Kingdom and the United States. Chris was with the internal audit group responsible for reviewing internal controls of GSK’s subsidiaries, branch offices and cross functional processes around the world, covering both financial and non-financial areas (e.g., legal and regulatory requirements, sales and marketing).

Until recently, Chris was responsible for GSK’s worldwide implementation of Enterprise Risk Management to enable business units to identify and manage risks to the achievement of strategic goals and objectives, including operational, legal compliance, and strategic risks.

Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from University of Birmingham (UK), is a UK Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and holds an MBA from Henley Business School (UK).

Chris is originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil and currently lives in Cary, North Carolina with his wife and three kids.
